Small group questions.
Use these with your small group or on your own this week.
Connection
- What do you remember most from last week’s sermon?
- How did you hear God’s voice or sense His presence this past week?
- What are you excited for this month?
Reflection
- Summarize this week’s sermon in one to three sentences. What was the main point of the message?
- What did the message say about you, God’s people or the world?
Application
- Pastor Ryan said, “God’s promises don’t remove us from suffering.” How does this story challenge the idea that following God should lead to an easier life? Have you experienced a time when God’s faithfulness and your suffering existed at the same time?
Additional reading: James 1:2–4; Romans 5:3–5 - When the Shunammite woman’s son died, she ran toward Elisha instead of away from God. When life falls apart, what is your natural tendency? What practical habits help you keep running toward God instead of drifting away from Him?
Additional reading: Psalm 46:1–3; Hebrews 4:14–16 - Elisha openly admitted, “The LORD has not told me what it is.” What does this teach us about humility, dependence on God, and accepting that we won’t always have every answer? How can that truth actually strengthen our faith?
Additional reading: Proverbs 3:5–6; 2 Corinthians 12:9–10 - Pastor Ryan connected this story to what our community is experiencing through the Spokane fires. Where have you seen God bringing hope, generosity, or life in the middle of hardship this week? How can our Life Group continue being part of God’s work of restoration?
- The sermon ended by pointing us to Jesus, the greater promised Son who conquered death forever. What “dead” situation in your life are you trusting God to breathe life into? As a group, how can we pray specifically for one another to hold onto hope this week?
