Small group questions.

Use these with your small group or on your own this week.

Connection

  • What do you remember most from last week’s sermon?
  • How did you hear God’s voice or sense His presence this past week?
  • What are you looking forward to most this week?

Reflection

  • Summarize this week’s sermon in one to three sentences. What was the main point of the message?
  • What did the message say about you, God’s people or the world?

Application

  1. Are you building meaningful relationships with other Christians? Paul tells the Colossians that encouragement comes from being connected through strong ties of love. Pastor Ryan challenged us to take responsibility for building those relationships rather than simply waiting for someone to pursue us. How connected do you feel to other believers? What could you personally do to strengthen those relationships?
    Additional reading: Hebrews 10:24–25
  2. How confident are you in what you believe about Jesus? Paul says that all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are found in Christ. When you face uncertainty, difficult circumstances, or questions about your faith, where do you typically turn for answers? How has your understanding of Jesus changed over the years?
  3. Have you ever believed something about God that you later discovered wasn’t biblical? Pastor Ryan shared several popular sayings that sound biblical but aren’t actually found in Scripture. Have you ever experienced something similar? How can we become better at recognizing false teaching without becoming cynical or suspicious of everything?
    Additional reading: 1 John 4:1–6
  4. Is your relationship with Jesus growing, staying the same, or becoming weaker? Paul describes following Jesus as an ongoing journey of walking, becoming rooted, and growing stronger in faith. Looking back over the past year, where have you experienced genuine spiritual growth? Is there an area where you’ve become stagnant?
  5. What is one thing you could change this week to become more deeply rooted in Christ? Pastor Ryan challenged us to read more, learn more, and intentionally pursue spiritual maturity. What currently competes for the time and attention you could be giving to your relationship with Jesus? What practical change could you make this week, and how could this group help you follow through?
    Additional reading: John 15:4–8
