COMMUNION AT NHCC
At NHCC, we share communion monthly at our Sunday services.
What is Communion?
Communion—also called the Lord’s Supper or Eucharist—is a special time for believers to remember and express gratitude to Jesus for His sacrificial death on the cross.
Who Can Take Communion?
Communion is for anyone who has put their faith in Jesus Christ.
Why Do We Take Communion?
Communion is about reflecting on what Jesus did for us, remembering His love and sacrifice, and centering our hearts on Him.
When Does NHCC Serve Communion?
We serve communion monthly during our Sunday services and we encourage our varying small groups to incorporate communion when appropriate.
Where and How Often Should We Celebrate Communion?
There’s no single “right way” to serve communion. The Bible doesn’t give us strict rules, so feel free to get creative and add variety. What matters most is taking the time to focus on Jesus. When communion is shared, make it meaningful and let it help you and your group grow closer to Him.
Ideas for Communion in Small Groups
- Use a loaf of unsliced bread and grape juice.
- Read Bible passages that reflect on Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, such as:
- Psalm 22
- 1 Corinthians 15:1–8
- Isaiah 53
- Galatians 2:16–21
- Mark 15:21–29
- Ephesians 2:1–10
- John 19
- Philippians 2:1–11
- Pass the bread around and invite each person to take a piece, explaining that the bread represents Jesus’ body broken for us.
- Read 1 Corinthians 11:23–26. Pass a cup of juice around and encourage members to dip their bread into the cup, which represents Jesus’ blood shed for us.
- Spend time in personal prayer and reflection.
- Close your time with group prayer and praise.
